Description
Lavatera produces abundant, showy flowers that resemble hollyhocks but on a more manageable, compact plant. Blooming from mid-summer through fall, its soft, ruffled petals in shades of pink, white, or purple attract pollinators and make Lavatera ideal for cutting gardens. Sturdy, upright stems hold flowers well, and its drought tolerance makes it low-maintenance for sunny gardens.

How to Grow:
Transplant (recommended): Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Sow lightly, keeping soil moist and warm (~70–75°F) until germination. Harden off seedlings before planting outside.
Direct seed: Sow ¼” deep after all frost danger has passed. Lavatera grows quickly from seed and can tolerate a range of soil types, though it prefers fertile, well-drained soil.
Pinch young plants to encourage branching and stronger stems, and deadhead regularly to keep flowers coming throughout the season.

Where to Plant: Plant in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Lavatera tolerates some drought once established but performs best with moderate watering. Space plants to allow airflow and avoid overcrowding.
