How to grow Feathertop Grass

Feathertop (Pennisetum villosum)

An ornamental grass that can be utilized either fresh or dried, its elegant plants showcase masses of nodding, white, woolly plumes, which serve as a striking accent in any landscape.

Days to maturity: 100 - 120 days

Plant spacing: 12-18”

Kids, Pets and Deer: non toxic, deer resistant

Indoor & Pots: grows well in large containers outside

How to grow:

Transplant (recommended): Sow ⅛” deep  5-7 weeks before last frost. Transplant outside after the last frost date. 

Direct seed: only in warm climates with a long growing season.

Germination: 10-14 days at 65-70°F (18-21°C)

Where to plant: Plant in full sun in average to light, porous soil.

Harvest/Dry: Harvest just before seed heads shed pollen and are still light green in color.  Hang upside down to dry in a warm and dark location for 2-3 weeks.
